What does the remote-controlled Wacker RTSC3 trench roller do?
The Wacker Neuson RTSC3 is a compaction roller specifically designed for use inside trenches. The operator controls it remotely from the surface using a radio handset, so no one needs to be inside the trench during compaction. It works in layers as the trench is backfilled — lower in sections, compact each lift, raise the machine and add the next lift. It produces better compaction of trench backfill than a plate compactor, particularly at depth, and removes the risk of a person working in a confined excavation.
How wide a roller do I need for a road resurfacing job?
For residential and private road resurfacing with a single roller, a 100cm to 120cm twin drum ride-on is the practical minimum that produces consistent coverage across a standard single-track lane width. For two-lane roads or commercial car parks, the 130cm or 140cm Hamm rollers complete the breakdown and intermediate passes efficiently. For large-area jobs, the pneumatic Hamm GRW 280i adds the finishing kneading passes across the full width.
Can I use a vibratory roller near a building?
Vibratory compaction close to structures carries a risk of causing settlement, cracking or damage to the structure or to buried services and drainage. Industry guidance (BRE Digest 353) specifies minimum safe working distances from structures depending on machine weight and vibration frequency. As a general precaution, turn vibration off and use static passes within 1 to 2 metres of any wall, foundation or buried service. If in doubt, use a plate compactor at low force near the structure and keep the roller to the main area.
