Low ground pressure equipment spreads machine weight across a larger contact area than a conventional setup, helping reduce rutting and surface disturbance on soft or sensitive ground. Coppard offers two dedicated 3-tonne LGP swivel dumpers from our Crowborough depot, including a grass-tyre configuration. They are particularly useful for landscaping, estate, agricultural and groundworks projects where protecting the existing surface is an important part of the job.

LGP Equipment Hire Fleet – Options and Rates

Our Crowborough depot stocks two dedicated low ground pressure 3-tonne swivel dumpers.

Both machines have a 3-tonne payload and an overall width of approximately 2,260mm. The standard LGP model uses ground-friendly running gear designed to spread the machine load over a larger contact area, while the alternative grass-tyre version is suited to jobs where protecting established grass and other sensitive surfaces is particularly important.

Both machines retain a swivel skip, allowing material to be discharged to either side where site space or access makes straight-ahead tipping inconvenient.

The best option depends on the surface, moisture levels, gradients, access and how sensitive the finished ground needs to remain.

Both models are currently listed at £120 per day or £300 per week. Prices exclude VAT and non-account customers add 10%.

When Is Low Ground Pressure Equipment Required?

Low ground pressure equipment is useful where conventional machinery is likely to create excessive rutting, compaction or surface disturbance.

Typical applications include established lawns, landscaped areas, sports grounds, agricultural land, paddocks and sites that have become soft after prolonged rain. The wider contact area of LGP tyres or tracks helps distribute machine weight more evenly across the surface.

Ground conditions still matter. Very wet, saturated or unstable ground may require additional ground protection or a different working method even when LGP machinery is being used. The weight of the load, gradients and frequency of travel over the same route can also affect the amount of disturbance caused.

Tell our Crowborough team about the surface, recent weather, access and work involved and we’ll help identify the most appropriate machine.

LGP Plant Hire for Garden and Landscape Projects in Crowborough and East Sussex

Landscaping projects often require materials to be moved across parts of a property that need to remain usable once the work is complete. Existing lawns, gardens, estate grounds and other finished surfaces can be particularly vulnerable to rutting when machinery repeatedly follows the same route.

Low ground pressure dumpers provide a practical option for transporting soil, aggregate, landscaping materials and spoil while reducing the concentration of machine weight on the surface.

Ground conditions around Crowborough and the High Weald can become particularly soft after sustained rain, especially on clay-rich soils. Where the surface is extremely wet or where even minor marking would be unacceptable, temporary ground-protection mats may still be required alongside the LGP machine.

From our Crowborough depot we regularly support projects in surrounding areas including Tunbridge Wells, Uckfield, Heathfield, Wadhurst and Forest Row, as well as the wider East Sussex and High Weald area.

Call 01892 662 777 with the access route, surface condition and materials being moved and we’ll help identify the most suitable option.

LGP Equipment for Agricultural and Equestrian Sites in Crowborough and East Sussex

Farms, equestrian centres and rural estates often need machinery to cross grass, paddocks and unmade ground when conditions are less than ideal. Conventional dumpers can create deep wheel marks when the ground is soft, particularly where the same route is used repeatedly.

The 3-tonne grass-tyre LGP dumper provides an option for moving aggregate, soil, manure and other materials where reducing surface disturbance is important. Its swivel skip also allows material to be placed to the side of the machine where access or working space is restricted.

For equestrian sites, an LGP dumper can be useful when moving materials around paddocks, tracks and suitable arena areas, provided the surface and ground conditions are appropriate for the machine.

Tell our Crowborough team about the ground, gradients, access and work involved. Where conditions are exceptionally wet or unstable, we can also discuss whether additional ground protection or another type of machine would be more appropriate.

Why Hire LGP Equipment from Coppard?

Coppard stocks dedicated low ground pressure dumpers alongside our wider earthmoving fleet, giving contractors, landscapers, estates and agricultural customers an alternative where protecting the existing surface is an important part of the project.

Both available machines retain a 3-tonne payload and swivel skip, so choosing the LGP option does not mean moving to a substantially smaller dumper simply to reduce ground disturbance.

LGP dumpers can also be hired alongside excavators, rollers and other plant where several machines are required for the same project.

Call 01892 662 777 and tell our Crowborough team about the ground conditions, access, materials being moved and how sensitive the surface is.

Frequently Asked Questions — Low Ground Pressure Equipment Hire in Crowborough

What is low ground pressure equipment?

Low ground pressure (LGP) equipment is plant machinery that has been configured to exert less force per square centimetre on the ground than a standard machine of the same weight. This is achieved by using wider tracks, extra-wide tyres or rubber tracks that spread the load over a larger footprint. The result is less surface damage, less compaction and the ability to operate on soft or sensitive ground where standard plant would cause unacceptable damage.

Ground pressure depends on the machine weight and the total contact area of the running gear. Exact figures vary by specific machine and loading, but LGP machines typically reduce ground pressure by 30 to 50% compared with their standard counterparts. This can mean the difference between leaving light impressions in turf and causing deep ruts that require full reinstatement.

It depends on the surface condition. On firm, dry turf, the LGP dumper can typically operate without additional protection. On saturated ground, near the edge of hard surfaces, or where any visible marking is unacceptable (such as on a cricket outfield or sports pitch during the season), ground protection mats are still advisable even with LGP equipment. The LGP machine reduces the risk — it does not eliminate it entirely.

3 tonnes — the same as a standard swivel dumper. The LGP configuration affects the running gear, not the payload capacity. You do not give up carrying capacity by choosing the LGP option.

Yes. The LGP dumper can be driven on hard standing, concrete and tarmac in the same way as a standard machine. There is no limitation on hard-surface use. The benefit of the LGP specification is realised on soft ground — on hard surfaces, you would not notice a difference.

Low ground pressure machinery is useful where standard equipment could sink, create deep ruts or compact soft, wet or sensitive ground. Wider tracks spread the machine’s weight over a larger area, but the ground condition, slope, drainage and machine load still need to be considered before work starts. AHDB’s practical guidance on soil compaction from machinery explains why wet soils are especially vulnerable to damage from heavy equipment. Tell Coppard’s Crowborough team what work is required, the condition of the ground and the access available, and they can recommend suitable low ground pressure equipment to keep the project moving while reducing unnecessary ground damage.
